This girl is pretty much the bane of my life. The two of them have known each other since they were in kindergarten. They also lived next door to each other and their moms were good friends, so they've been in each others' lives since forever, basically. To sum up, they're insanely close. The only problem is his best friend. They have so much history together, tons of inside jokes I don't get, weird nicknames for each other and they know all of each other's secrets.

That should happen gradually if you are patient. Maybe she hasn't been physical with a guy before? She may well be very apprehensive, which means that trust is very important. If you push things too fast, she may panic and back off. She needs to feel very comfortable with you.

The excuse I used (and use) is that he is much younger than myself and was not real practiced at learning to drawl the line between platonic friendships and intimate relationships -- And not real good at "the letting go" that you also mentioned. But at least, for the sake of our relationship, he was willing to make some compromises and improvements. Went through some very similar incidences with my own boyfriend a little over year ago...the memories and *flashbacks* of which STILL haunt me from time to time. I would almost swear this guy you described is some college bachelor with no prior experience with healthy relationships at all.
