The girl could've toyed with you - knowing you have feelings. They have BOTH stated I'm more mature than they are. But she decided to be honest and just tell you that "friends" is all you can ever expect. The current guy I'm dating is 14 years older than me. And btw, age doesn't have anything to do with it. I got together with my XH when I was 22 and he was 37. So IMO, your cousin is wrong on that count.

It will be better for the both of you. If you're bored now with this guy and the abusive jerk got your juices flowing you'll just abuse this poor guy in the end. You may discover during this period that he does excite you. If you do actually like him then try to keep seeing him but in a non committed dating sort of way. I've been both the 'nice guy' and the '*******' in my past. Do the guy a favor and tell him that you don't want to be exclusive with him. By nature I'm a 'nice guy'. If you don't....no harm no foul (no commitment remember?) and nobody get's hurt (not too bad at least) That way he's free to pursue someone who can appreciate his qualities (an he will) but in the meantime you can take a step back and decide if he is really what you want.
